I managed to RIP a DVD to the hard drive, all but one of the final VOB files
which apparently was a "the making of" file anyway--and even that one (#14
or so) ripped partially, just not fully.

Also, most principally important, the first VOB file, called VTS_01_1,
ripped but took a LONG time to do so. DVD Decryptor gave many read errors
doing so, so I ripped with DVD FAB Decryptor, and ripped the remaining files
with DVD Decryptor. (As you likely know, DVD FAB does not give you a
file-file option, only the whole disc at once, while Decryptor lets you
choose files individually.)

At any rate, I can play the entire DVD on the hard drive using Power DVD.
Plays just fine, no flaws in the movie at all. (I would imagine that the
"final VOB file, number 14 or thereabouts, wouldn't play, but the movie
plays fine.)

Even so, I cannot get DVD Shrink to evaluate the files as it finds errors in
the first file (VTS_01_1) that took a long time to rip. I need DVD Shrink
because the movie is some 8 gigabytes in size and I am using a single-layer
DVD recording device.

Is there a way I can "repair" the offending VOB file so that DVD Shrink can
evaluate it and I can then burn it to a 4.7G DVD+R disc?

One way to do it is to reauthor the project
Drag the VOB files into a mpeg editor like Womble to join then up export as
a MPEG 2 transport file then import that file into say ConvertXtoDVD. Burn
it!
