Hi,

I'd just like to get peoples opinions as to what is the best player out there for the money. The features I'm looking for are listed below in order of importance:

1) Media and format compatability (DVD+/-RW, CD-RW, (X)(S)VCD, DivX, MPG4, JPG, MP3, etc.)
2) Video and audio capabilities (DTS, Dolby 5.1 pro logic, etc.)
3) Ability to flash firmware to Macrovision free version.
4) Ability to add other IDE stuff like networked harddrives.

Basically, I'm looking for a cheap, reliable replacement for my parent's Apex AD-660.
I'm moving out and love this player, but its theirs.
Any extra features would be icing on the cake.

Thanks in advance,

- Boyd S.

ps. One that is hd-burn compatible would be sweet (though I realize this is probably asking a lot).

Check the list here by checking the specs you want...

I believe you will only find a handful that support DivX and/or MPEG4. The
other question is best player for what amount of money. You usually need to
provide a price range at least.

Yes, I did this all ready.
I was also interested in the learned opinions of the p33ps in this group.
That's why I posed the question.

MPEG4 and DivX support aren't *that* important to me.
However, what is important (and what I failed to mention) is that the
firmware upgrade also make the player region free.

I'd like to keep it under $200US if possible.

TIA,
